what Is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a non-invasive manual practice, encouraging the healing and recovery of musculoskeletal issues. Osteopaths work with all systems of the body to find the root cause of the pain and dysfunction, in order to produce a long term relief of symptoms. The practice works to repair damage to the body through hands-on assessment and manipulation, while allowing it’s patients to regain their mobility and function.

How does it differ from other manual therapies?

Although all manual therapies are mostly hands on, the Osteopathic assessment is extremely thorough and goes through a range of applicable testing to determine the root cause of the symptoms experienced. The Osteopath uses the results of this assessment to create an appropriate treatment plan and approach for the desired outcome. While other manual therapies (Physiotherapy, Chiropractic, Massage Therapy, etc) have several beneficial outcomes, often specific to the current symptoms being suffered, Osteopathy’s goal is to find the root cause of the symptoms in order to achieve a long term and sustained resolution to any dysfunction or pain.

What does an appointment look like with an osteopath?

You will receive a complete assessment of all the systems of the body in your initial appointment along with a complete osteopathic treatment. In future appointments you will see re-testing and treatment of the body’s remaining dysfunctions. Progressive goals will be made, strength and mobility programs will be prescribed, and treatments will focus on restoring proper alignment, mobility, strength, and functionality to the body.
